About Gwen Ontiveros

Born to a family that traveled extensively, I was taught early to read and draw and by age four I was creating recognizable pictures. I've been painting and drawing since then.

In the early 1980's I began to carve in bas relief. By 1991 I felt a career as a paralegal was not for me so I resigned my job and began to carve carousel horses. This led to wall sculptures of redwood and smaller pieces of wood sculpture. At this time I began to paint again, using most available media.

In 1997 my first computer appeared and the road to digital art was a really dim footpath lit by PhotoShop. It was a new land with a new language. Not easy, but so worth the effort of learning.

In 1998 Orick Arts was formed to support local working artists. It has now acquired a new home and will be building additional gallery space, to be opened Summer of 2007. This will offer our patrons two studios and galleries to showcase the talents and art of our artists.

This point in time finds me struggling to surmount the learning curve of 3d modeling and animation.

My inspiration is the work of the digital pioneers who have developed the software and hardware that drives this dynamic digital art movement that I am so happy to be a part of.
